New Delhi, January 19, 2026:
The national capital woke up to dense smog on Monday, with air quality deteriorating sharply and the Air Quality Index remaining in the ‘Severe’ category. Reduced visibility was reported in several areas, affecting road and air traffic, while health authorities advised people — especially children, the elderly and those with respiratory issues — to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure.
Environmental experts attributed the spike in pollution levels to stagnant weather conditions, low wind speed and local emissions. Cold wave conditions continue across north India, further worsening air quality in the region.
