Chennai, April 15, 2026: Vijay, chief of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), criticized the Union Government over the proposed amendment to the Women’s Reservation Bill, calling it “discriminatory.” He expressed concern that the suggested changes could dilute the original intent of ensuring fair and adequate representation for women in legislative bodies. Vijay argued that any move that weakens inclusivity would undermine the broader goal of gender equality in politics.
He further urged the central leadership to reconsider the proposal and ensure that the legislation remains focused on empowering women across all sections of society. Vijay emphasized that reforms should strengthen democratic representation rather than create divisions, and called for wider consultations before implementing any amendments. His remarks come amid growing political debate over the scope and implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill across the country.
