
Guwahati, 23 January 2026 — The Budget Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly is set to begin on 16 February 2026, as per an official notification issued by the Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat. Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has summoned the House under Article 174(1) of the Constitution of India. The Assembly will convene at 9:30 AM at the Assembly Chamber in Dispur to take up key legislative and financial business.
The session will primarily focus on discussions related to the Vote on Account for the forthcoming financial year. This interim budget exercise is significant as it comes ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, ensuring continuity of government spending until a full budget is presented by the next government.
During the session, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog is scheduled to table the Vote on Account Budget for 2026–27 on 17 February. In addition, the House is expected to deliberate on supplementary demands for grants pertaining to the current financial year 2025–26, along with other legislative matters during the multi-day session.
