Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in a bilateral dialogue aimed at strengthening India–Germany strategic and economic ties, with a focus on the India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), technology cooperation and green energy transition. Modi welcomed Germany’s commitment to expanding trade and investment flows, noting that India’s fast-growing economy and skilled workforce make it an essential partner on the global stage.
In their discussions, Modi and Chancellor Merz reaffirmed mutual interests in sectors such as infrastructure, renewable energy, digital technology and advanced manufacturing. Modi reiterated India’s support for a balanced India–EU FTA, stressing that such an agreement would unlock greater economic potential and enhance market access for both regions. He also emphasised the need for collaboration on climate action and sustainable development, positioning both countries as pivotal drivers of future global growth.
