The Gujarat government has launched a network of Smart Blue Harbours aimed at enhancing fisheries infrastructure, improving food security, and strengthening the coastal economy. The initiative focuses on modernizing fishing harbours with state-of-the-art facilities, cold storage, and digital monitoring systems to support sustainable and efficient operations.
Officials said the project will provide better support to local fishermen, reduce post-harvest losses, and create new employment opportunities along the coast. Experts believe that the move will also boost export potential for seafood products and contribute to economic development in coastal communities, aligning with the government’s vision of a modern and resilient fisheries sector.
