Kolkata, November 29, 2025 — The Election Commission of India (ECI) has written to the Director General of Police and senior law enforcement officials in West Bengal, directing them to ensure adequate security for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during ongoing electoral processes. The move comes amid reports of threats and obstruction faced by BLOs while carrying out voter verification and related duties in sensitive areas.
The ECI emphasized that BLOs play a crucial role in maintaining the accuracy of electoral rolls and that their safety is essential for free and fair elections. The Commission has asked the state police to provide immediate protection wherever necessary and take strict action against anyone attempting to intimidate or disrupt election-related work.
