Indian Army Backs Community-Led Adventure Tourism in North Sikkim, Boosting Local Livelihoods

Gangtok, November 27, 2025:
In a major push towards sustainable development and rural empowerment, the Indian Army has extended strong support to community-led adventure tourism initiatives in North Sikkim. The effort focuses on promoting trekking, high-altitude expeditions, and eco-tourism activities while ensuring safety, infrastructure support, and training for local youth.

The initiative is aimed at creating alternative sources of livelihood for border-area communities while strengthening civilian-military cooperation. By encouraging responsible tourism and skill development, the project is expected to boost employment, promote cultural exchange, and position North Sikkim as a key hub for adventure tourism in Northeast India.
