14 Tamil Nadu Fishermen Arrested by Sri Lankan Navy for Alleged Maritime Boundary Violation

Rameswaram, November 10, 2025: Fourteen fishermen from Tamil Nadu were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on Monday for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) while fishing near the Palk Strait. The fishermen, who had set out from Rameswaram and nearby coastal areas, were detained along with their boats and taken to Sri Lankan custody for further inquiry.

The incident has triggered concern among fishing communities in Tamil Nadu, who have long demanded a diplomatic solution to recurring mid-sea arrests. Local leaders and families of the detained fishermen have urged the Indian government to intervene immediately to ensure their safe release and to establish a more sustainable mechanism to prevent such maritime disputes in the future.
