Bengaluru, January 2:
A Karnataka minister on Thursday strongly dismissed the Centre’s voters–EVMs survey, questioning its intent and credibility and remarking, “What do you expect?” while reacting to the initiative. The minister alleged that the survey was politically driven and aimed more at shaping public opinion than addressing genuine concerns related to the electoral process. He argued that such exercises risk undermining public trust in democratic institutions if they are perceived as biased or selectively designed.
The minister further stated that confidence in elections should be built through transparent processes, institutional safeguards and respect for constitutional bodies rather than through opinion-based surveys conducted by the Centre. His remarks triggered sharp political reactions, with opposition parties backing his criticism and accusing the Centre of misusing official mechanisms for political messaging, while the ruling side defended the survey, stating that it was intended to gather feedback and strengthen voter confidence in the electoral system.
