New Delhi, January 7:
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Alok Kumar on Wednesday strongly condemned the recent incident at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), where students reportedly raised slogans advocating “grave-digging” against political figures. Kumar described the slogans as “unacceptable, highly provocative and a threat to democratic discourse,” stressing that such acts cannot be justified under the guise of free expression. He urged authorities to take strict action against those involved and called for maintaining decorum and respect within academic institutions, warning that unchecked rhetoric could incite violence and deepen societal divisions.
Speaking further, Kumar highlighted the role of educational institutions in shaping responsible citizens and stressed that campus activities should focus on constructive debate and learning rather than promoting hostility or personal attacks. He also appealed to student bodies and political groups to denounce such behaviour and work toward fostering a safe and respectful environment for all. Observers noted that the incident has sparked debates on freedom of speech, campus politics, and the limits of protest, reflecting broader tensions in universities across India. Authorities at JNU have confirmed that they are investigating the matter and have assured that appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken against students found involved in the incident.
