Washington, December 15:
A Starlink satellite narrowly avoided a collision with a Chinese rocket, coming within 200 meters of the debris in low Earth orbit, space authorities reported on Monday. The close encounter prompted a temporary course adjustment to ensure the satellite’s safety and maintain operational continuity.
Officials said the incident underscores the growing concerns around space congestion and orbital debris, highlighting the risks posed by increasing satellite launches worldwide. Analysts noted that such near-misses emphasize the need for enhanced international coordination and monitoring to prevent potential collisions in increasingly crowded orbital paths.
