New Delhi, October 31: The Delhi High Court has refused to stay the release of The Taj Story, the Paresh Rawal–starrer that recently sparked controversy over its plot and historical depiction. A petition seeking to halt the film’s release alleged that the movie distorts historical facts and could hurt public sentiment. The court, however, observed that the film’s release could not be restrained at this stage and that creative expression must be protected unless there is clear evidence of unlawful content.
The High Court further noted that viewers have the choice to watch or reject a film and that restrictions cannot be imposed based solely on anticipated reactions. It also stated that any grievances regarding the movie should be addressed through proper legal channels after its release. With the court’s decision, The Taj Story will now hit theatres as scheduled, despite ongoing debates and public criticism surrounding the film’s narrative.
