Jimmy Lai, the prominent Hong Kong media tycoon, gained international attention as a vocal critic of Beijing’s policies in Hong Kong. Founder of the Apple Daily newspaper, Lai became a symbol of pro-democracy activism, using his media empire to advocate for press freedom and civil liberties.
Over the years, Lai faced legal and financial pressures from authorities, including arrests and the closure of his newspaper, as part of Beijing’s crackdown on dissent.
