Sriharikota, November 2025: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully conducted a crucial test of the main parachutes for its ambitious Gaganyaan Mission, marking a major milestone in India’s journey toward human spaceflight. The test, carried out at the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, verified the parachutes’ performance in ensuring a safe descent and landing of the crew module.
According to ISRO officials, the main parachute system is designed to reduce the crew module’s speed from supersonic levels to a safe touchdown velocity. The successful demonstration reinforces the reliability of the mission’s recovery mechanism, which is vital for astronaut safety. With multiple phases of testing completed, ISRO is steadily progressing toward its first crewed space mission, scheduled for launch in the coming years.
