Indian Railways To Build Mega Coaching Terminals in 20 Cities to Double Train Handling Capacity

New Delhi, November 10, 2025: In a major upgrade to India’s railway infrastructure, the Railways has announced plans to develop Mega Coaching Terminals in 20 key cities to significantly enhance train handling capacity. The initiative aims to decongest existing station hubs, improve operational efficiency, and enable smoother arrivals and departures of long-distance passenger trains.

These upcoming terminals will be equipped with advanced maintenance facilities, modern passenger amenities, and improved connectivity to reduce turnaround time for trains. The move is expected to boost capacity, reduce delays, and cater to the rising demand for rail travel across major urban centres. Officials say the project will not only improve travel experience but also support India’s target of expanding and modernising its rail network for future growth.
