The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has unveiled a ‘Do No Harm’ governance framework to promote responsible and ethical use of Artificial Intelligence across India. The framework sets out principles focused on safety, accountability, transparency, and fairness to ensure AI technologies do not cause harm, discriminate, or violate privacy. It will serve as a guiding document for developers, companies, and government institutions working with AI-based solutions.
The initiative marks a major milestone in India’s digital regulation landscape, reinforcing a human-centric approach to technology. MeitY has emphasized multi-stakeholder collaboration with industry leaders, academic experts, and global bodies to establish trustworthy AI practices aligned with international standards. The framework aims to balance innovation with ethical safeguards, ensuring AI supports societal progress while protecting citizens’ rights.
