Zurich, Dec 17: FIFA has announced a new $60 supporter entry tier for the 2026 World Cup, aimed at making tickets more accessible to a broader base of football fans. The initiative, however, has sparked backlash among supporters, who argue that the pricing still remains steep when combined with travel, accommodation, and other associated costs. FIFA stated that the new tier is part of efforts to increase inclusivity and allow more fans to attend matches across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, where the tournament will be co-hosted.
Despite FIFA’s assurances, critics and fan groups have raised concerns over affordability, suggesting that the tier does not meaningfully address barriers for lower-income fans. Social media platforms have seen widespread debate, with some praising the move as a positive step, while others highlight the continued challenges of attending matches in a multi-nation tournament. FIFA has said ticket sales will open in phases and that priority will be given to football club members and early registrants, in a bid to manage demand while ensuring fair distribution of tickets.
