The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has raised serious concerns over low soil fertility and widespread nutrient deficiency across large parts of Pakistan, warning that the issue could severely affect agricultural productivity and food security. According to the FAO, essential nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are significantly lacking in the soil, leading to declining crop yields and poor land health.
Experts stated that overuse of chemical fertilizers, poor irrigation practices, and lack of balanced nutrient management are major reasons behind the soil degradation. The FAO has urged Pakistan to adopt sustainable farming methods, promote soil testing, and encourage balanced fertilizer use to restore soil health. The warning comes at a critical time as Pakistan faces rising food demand and climate-related agricultural challenges.
