Cricket Australia CEO Wants BBL To Become A ‘Grand Slam’ League Franchise

Cricket Australia CEO on Thursday said he wants the Big Bash League (BBL) to evolve into a “Grand Slam”-style franchise competition, placing it among the world’s premier T20 leagues. He said the vision is to enhance the league’s global appeal, competitiveness, and commercial value.

The CEO stated that a stronger franchise model, longer window, and increased international player participation could help the BBL reach the stature of top global sporting leagues. He added that maintaining the league’s Australian identity while expanding its international footprint remains a key priority.

Cricket Australia officials said discussions are ongoing around scheduling, investment, and fan engagement strategies to strengthen the league’s future. The proposal reflects the board’s long-term ambition to make the BBL a marquee global T20 tournament, comparable to elite franchise competitions worldwide.
