Microsoft to Auto-Use LinkedIn User Data for AI Training; Users Get Opt-Out Option

San Francisco, November 1, 2025 – Microsoft is set to use LinkedIn user data for artificial intelligence training by default, sparking fresh discussions on data privacy and user consent. The company has updated its policy to allow profile information, activity data, and public posts from LinkedIn to be used in training its AI models to improve search, recommendations, and workplace-based AI features. The move is part of Microsoft’s larger push to enhance its AI ecosystem across professional networking and enterprise tools.

Users, however, have been given the option to opt out of this data usage if they do not wish to have their information included. LinkedIn will allow members to modify their settings to restrict data from being used for AI training, and privacy experts have urged users to review their account preferences. The update has prompted concerns about transparency and control over personal data, with professionals encouraged to stay informed about how their information is utilised in AI development.

Reddit Files Lawsuit Against Perplexity, Oxylabs, AWMProxy, and SerpApi Over AI Data Use

New York, October 22, 2025 — Reddit has filed a lawsuit in a New York federal court against Perplexity AI and three other entities—Oxylabs UAB, AWMProxy, and SerpApi—accusing them of unlawfully scraping its data to train Perplexity’s AI search engine. The lawsuit alleges that these companies bypassed Reddit’s data protection measures and took content that Perplexity used to enhance its “answer engine.” Reddit highlighted that, while it has licensed its content to companies like Google and OpenAI, it has not authorized Perplexity to use its data, which comes from extensive subreddit communities.

The lawsuit claims that Perplexity continued to increase citations of Reddit content even after receiving a cease-and-desist letter, worsening the dispute. Reddit is seeking monetary damages and a court injunction to stop further use of its data. Perplexity has denied the allegations, emphasizing its commitment to factual and open AI development. SerpApi also denied wrongdoing and plans to contest the claims, while the other two accused companies have not commented.
