Dhaka, January 7:
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rejected the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s request to shift Bangladesh’s matches during the T20 World Cup 2026, according to officials familiar with the matter. The decision was communicated after the ICC reviewed the proposal and assessed logistical, scheduling, and operational considerations related to the tournament. The global governing body reportedly maintained that the existing arrangements were finalised after extensive planning and consultations, and altering venues at this stage would pose significant challenges to the overall execution of the event.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board acknowledged the ICC’s decision while reiterating that its request was made in the interest of the team and stakeholders. BCB officials stated that they would continue to cooperate with the ICC and focus on preparations within the existing framework. Cricket analysts noted that venue-related requests are often complex due to broadcasting commitments, security planning, and coordination with host boards. With the ICC standing by its decision, attention is now expected to shift toward Bangladesh’s on-field preparations as the T20 World Cup 2026 approaches.
