Kolkata, December 30:
Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s three-day visit to Kolkata is set to focus on Bharatiya Janata Party’s election preparedness in West Bengal and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, party sources said on Monday. During his stay, Shah is expected to hold a series of high-level organisational meetings with state BJP leaders, district presidents and booth-level coordinators to assess ground-level preparedness ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Discussions will also revolve around strengthening the party’s organisational structure, voter outreach strategies and addressing local issues to sharpen the BJP’s political messaging in the state.
A key agenda of the visit is the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists, which has emerged as a politically sensitive issue in Bengal. BJP leaders are expected to brief Shah on concerns related to alleged discrepancies in voter rolls, including claims of duplication and illegal entries. The Home Minister is also likely to review feedback from party workers on the SIR process and outline a roadmap to ensure transparency and voter awareness. In addition to internal meetings, Shah is scheduled to participate in select public and party programmes aimed at energising the cadre and reinforcing the BJP’s commitment to clean and fair electoral practices. The visit is being seen as a significant step in shaping the party’s Bengal strategy as it gears up for an intense electoral battle.
