Canberra, December 11: The Australian government on Wednesday asked major social media companies to submit detailed reports on the measures they are taking to prevent abuse and exploitation of teenagers on their platforms. Officials said the request comes amid growing concerns over the safety of young users and the rising incidents of online harassment.
Authorities emphasized that social media platforms must be proactive in detecting and removing harmful content, enhancing privacy settings for minors, and reporting progress transparently. The government also urged companies to collaborate with law enforcement, child protection agencies, and educators to create a safer digital environment. Experts said such measures are critical to safeguarding teens while encouraging responsible online behaviour and accountability among tech firms.
