The All India Imam Association has urged authorities to take strict action against religious preacher Devkinandan Thakur following his controversial remarks, which the organization claims hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community. In a statement, the association called for an official investigation and appropriate legal measures, stressing that such statements could incite communal tension and disrupt public harmony. Officials from the group said that preserving interfaith respect and maintaining communal peace are of paramount importance in a diverse country like India.
The association highlighted that religious leaders have a responsibility to promote unity and social cohesion, and any deviation from this duty should be addressed promptly under the law. Legal experts noted that the call for action may lead to filing of complaints under sections of the Indian Penal Code related to promoting enmity between groups and hurting religious sentiments.
