Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray strongly criticised the ICC’s decision to host the 2026 T20 World Cup final in Ahmedabad, terming it a case of “sudden politics of favouritism.” He questioned why other capable cities with strong sporting infrastructure were ignored, despite having successfully hosted major international tournaments in the past.
Thackeray said such decisions raise serious concerns about transparency and regional balance in global sporting events. He added that cities like Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata have rich cricketing legacies and deserve equal opportunities. His remarks have triggered a fresh political and sporting debate over fairness in the selection of host venues for marquee international matches.
