New Delhi, November 6, 2025:
Music maestro A.R. Rahman has launched a new all-women vocal band named “Rooh-e-Noor”, which translates to “Soul of Light”. The band aims to celebrate the richness of Indian music with a fresh, powerful female voice. The six-member ensemble is led by Rahman’s daughter Khatija Rahman, with Kannika Urs overseeing the project, and includes vocalists Pooja Tiwari, Sana Aziz, Shaoni, Amina Rafiq, and Shifa Ruby. Rahman expressed that this band is a blend of purity, strength, and cultural depth, representing both tradition and modern musical expression.

The group is set to make its world premiere on November 21 at the Tanweer Festival in Sharjah, where they will perform alongside Rahman’s Sufi ensemble. “Rooh-e-Noor” aims to empower and spotlight women artists in the Indian music industry by showcasing devotional, classical-inspired, and contemporary fusion performances. The initiative marks a major step toward increasing female representation in the music space and inspiring young women across the country to pursue their musical dreams.
