I Believe in Rashtriya Bhasha: National Language Remark Sparks Debate Ahead of 1st New Zealand ODI

New Delhi, January 12:
A fresh controversy has emerged ahead of the first ODI between India and New Zealand after a senior Indian cricketer’s remark on “Rashtriya Bhasha” (national language) triggered a wide debate on social media and among fans. The comment, made during a media interaction, quickly drew mixed reactions, with some supporting the sentiment while others questioned its timing and implications in a diverse, multilingual country.

Clarifying his stance, the cricketer said he personally believes in the idea of a national language and respects all Indian languages equally. However, the remark has continued to dominate discussions as the team prepares for the opening ODI against New Zealand. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not issued any official statement so far, while attention remains split between the on-field contest and the off-field debate surrounding the comment.
