Bengaluru, January 12:
A job advertisement seeking a “non-Kannada” candidate for the post of Human Resources head has sparked a linguistic controversy in Bengaluru, drawing sharp reactions from political leaders, language activists, and social media users. The listing, which surfaced on a professional hiring platform, was widely criticised for allegedly discriminating against Kannada-speaking candidates and undermining the primacy of the local language.
Several pro-Kannada organisations demanded action against the company, arguing that such criteria violate the spirit of inclusivity and disregard Karnataka’s cultural identity. Political leaders across party lines also weighed in, urging authorities to examine the matter and ensure compliance with labour and language norms. Meanwhile, the company concerned reportedly removed or edited the listing following the backlash, as the incident reignited the broader debate over language, employment practices, and identity in Bengaluru’s corporate ecosystem.
