India Set to Double Sugar Exports to 2 Million Tons in Upcoming Season

New Delhi, November 6, 2025: India is preparing to significantly increase its sugar exports, with plans to double outbound shipments to nearly 2 million tons in the new season. This move comes as sugar production is expected to rise due to improved crop yields and favourable weather conditions across key sugarcane-growing states. The government is finalizing export strategies in coordination with mills to tap into strong global demand.

Industry experts believe the decision will boost the domestic sugar sector by reducing surplus stock and supporting mill liquidity, ultimately helping farmers receive timely payments. The increased export volume is also expected to strengthen India’s position in the global sugar market. However, analysts caution that international sugar prices, logistics costs, and policy shifts will play a crucial role in determining overall export profitability for the season.
