Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu advanced to the semifinals of the Malaysia Open 2026 after her quarterfinal opponent and former world No.1 Akane Yamaguchi retired midway due to injury on Friday. Sindhu was leading comfortably when Yamaguchi was forced to pull out, bringing an abrupt end to a highly anticipated clash between two of women’s badminton’s biggest names. The Indian shuttler displayed strong control and aggressive shot-making early in the match, putting pressure on the Japanese star before the unfortunate retirement.
