India has set an ambitious goal of securing 10% of global 6G patents by 2030, with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) highlighting the crucial role of Artificial Intelligence in shaping next-generation telecom networks. DoT Secretary Neeraj Mittal stated that the government is focusing on strengthening R&D, boosting domestic innovation, and promoting industry–academia collaboration to make India a major contributor to future telecom technologies. The strategy includes developing testbeds, supporting startups, and enabling favourable policies to encourage breakthrough advancements in 6G.
AI is expected to be at the core of 6G networks, enabling intelligent, faster, and more resilient communication systems. It will power features like autonomous network management, real-time optimisation, and enhanced cybersecurity. With a strong push toward indigenous technology development, India aims to position itself as a global leader in advanced telecom innovation and emerge as an influential player in shaping the future of communication.
