Australia Joins India, Japan, US for Exercise Malabar 2025 to Strengthen Indo-Pacific Naval Cooperation

New Delhi | December 4, 2025 — Australia has formally joined India, Japan, and the United States for Exercise Malabar 2025, reinforcing the growing strategic and naval cooperation among the Quad nations. The high-profile maritime exercise will focus on enhancing interoperability, joint operational skills, and coordinated maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region.

Defence officials said the exercise will include complex sea drills, anti-submarine warfare operations, surface combat training, and advanced air defence manoeuvres. The participation of all four Quad partners underlines their shared commitment to maintaining a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific, amid rising regional security challenges. The drills are also expected to significantly improve real-time coordination during humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions.
