The Central Government has announced a major expansion of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), confirming that the scheme will now also compensate farmers for losses caused by wild animal attacks and waterlogging. Officials stated that this move aims to provide broader protection to farmers facing increasing climate-related and ecological challenges.
Under the revised guidelines, states can opt for these additional coverages to ensure farmers receive timely compensation for crop damage beyond traditional natural calamities. The government believes the strengthened scheme will significantly improve rural resilience and secure farmers’ income against unpredictable risks.
