SC Seeks Centre & ED’s Reply on Plea by Bhupesh Baghel’s Son Against Arrest

New Delhi, October 31, 2025: The Supreme Court on Thursday sought responses from the Central Government and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on a petition filed by the son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, challenging his possible arrest in a money-laundering case. The bench issued notices to both parties after the petitioner claimed that the ED’s investigation was politically motivated and aimed at targeting his family. The Court has granted time to the Centre and ED to file their replies before the next hearing.

The plea also requested interim protection from coercive action, arguing that the arrest, if made, would violate the principles of fairness and natural justice. The Supreme Court has asked the agencies to clarify their stand and justify the need for custodial interrogation. The matter will be taken up again after the responses are submitted, keeping the case under judicial scrutiny.
