New Delhi, November 11, 2025: Former India cricketer and commentator Aakash Chopra has sparked debate after suggesting that the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) should consider releasing Venkatesh Iyer ahead of the upcoming IPL auction. Speaking on his show, Chopra stated that while Iyer had a breakout season in 2021, his inconsistencies with the bat in recent editions have raised questions about his long-term role in the squad. He hinted that KKR might benefit from exploring fresh options to strengthen their middle order.
Chopra, however, acknowledged Iyer’s all-round potential and stated that a change of franchise could help him revive his form and flourish under a different setup. His remark has triggered mixed reactions among fans, with some agreeing that KKR needs restructuring, while others believe Iyer deserves more opportunities.
